Poetry: Leap

Lord, you’re indefinable
Unpindown-able
Icons can’t capture you
You are untameable.
Not male nor female
Yet my mother and father
No-one is lost
My sister, my brother.

Lord, you aren’t found
In black or white
But there in the grey
Of charcoal and mercury
Rain clouds and pavements.
Not caught nor containable
You’re fluid,
Unfathomable.

You trickle through fingers
Escape my clenched hands.
I need to let go, feel
You soak through my skin
Open my fist,
Let the stream flow deep,
Without water we die.
I take the leap.
